How Senior Care Can Benefit Your Family

Jan 11, 2018 by Erin Couchell

If you notice these changes in your senior loved one, consider bringing senior care into your home

We all want the best for our loved ones. As we get into the New Year, everybody is thinking about resolutions. This year, consider a commonly overlooked resolution: senior care. If your loved one is a senior, they may be in need of a bit more help now than before to stay independent. To help you decide whether or not senior care is right for your family, we have put together a list of common warning signs that it may be time.

This list is by no means comprehensive, but it is a good introduction to what you should be on the lookout for as your loved one ages. Let's take a look.

Loneliness/ Isolation

It is no secret that loneliness and isolation plague the senior community. In fact, the two are intricately intertwined when it comes to seniors. If you have noticed that your loved one has started retreating into isolation more and more, it may be a warning sign that their health is deteriorating but they are afraid to talk about it or ask for help. A wide range of senior care services like transportation assistance could help them get back on their feet and continue living a fulfilled existence.

Have you noticed that your loved one has started shunning the things they used to love? Hobbies like gardening or reading are important to help ground and fulfill us. If your loved one is getting rid of things they used to love and becoming more aggressive, irritable or abrasive, they may be going through a hard time and need companionship. A senior care professional can become their companion over time and become an integral part of your loved one's life, helping them get through painful moments.

Memory Loss

It is impossible to remember everything. In fact, our minds are designed in such a way that we actually forget most of the things we see or experience on a daily basis. In turn, it makes sense that humans are forgetful by nature. However, we always remember the things we need to get through the day and survive. If your loved one has begun forgetting things of this nature, it may be time to look into senior care as soon as possible to ensure their independence and safety as they age.

Like we said, this is by no means a comprehensive list, but a comprehensive list is impossible. There is a myriad of reasons to look into senior care options in your area and doing so is sure to help your loved one live a more fulfilling life.
